"What do you get when you lock 3 top-level strength and conditioning specialists together in one room for 4 hours and let the video camera record it all?"

Where will you get experience, cutting-edge training techniques, and innovated approaches to improving your athletes' performance?

Dear Fellow Coaches,

If you haven't noticed, there has been an explosion of strength and conditioning training information over the last few years.  Coaches and trainers who have been producing amazing results with their clients on the field and in the gym are now sharing their tried and true methods to improving athletic performance.  Estimates indicate that about every 18 months the volume of available training information doubles.

Scientific research on training methods has now left the laboratory and is finally going into the gym.  As one of our colleagues is fond of saying, "The problem with research is that researchers are actually strength and conditioning historians because they're figuring out the reasons why the techniques that strength and conditioning coaches have already been using effectively are working.

It always comes back to the strength and conditioning coaches.  The guys that learned from their own coaches and mentors.  The guys that made the mistakes and learned what did and what didn't work to improve an athlete's performance and keep them healthy.

That's how we learned and it's probably the best way to improve your own teaching and training skills.

The problems is that as the strength and conditioning profession has grown and developed, it is harder to gain access to the leaders in our field.  Mentorships are a great way to gain that access and to gain experience, but there are downsides.

For one thing, it's going to cost you money.  In most cases, a lot of money.  You'll most likely shell out a couple of thousand dollars for a 5-7 day mentorship.  Then you have your travel costs to consider.  Finally, you have to consider the money that you're losing by not attending to your own business demands.

Don't get us wrong, mentorships are certainly beneficial if you can afford them, but there may be more reasonable methods to address your ongoing educational needs.

For instance, training seminars and conferences provide massive amounts of information in just a few days.  The great thing about seminars is that you're provided with plenty of training theory and practical information from a variety of view points.

Chances are by now you’ve been to your share of seminars and conferences and know a little of what we're talking about.

Sometimes the presenters are great, the information is great, but you’re still a little disappointed because the information your received was good theory, but it wasn’t really something that you could apply when you got back to work on Monday.

Personally, we think you miss out on where the real cutting-edge, you can apply tomorrow type of information comes from.  It isn’t in the meeting room.

It's in the hotel bar AFTER the seminar.

No...really!

At a seminar, you have one speaker at a time.  One opinion, one perspective, one area of expertise.  Maybe one piece of useful information in all your diligently scribbled notes.

Here’s an example of what actually happened AFTER a recent seminar.

Imagine sitting at the same table with some of the top strength and conditioning coaches in the country all sitting around a table talking about training.  This discussion included a top Hollywood fitness trainer, a one of the most sought-after strength and conditioning coaches in the country, a sports speed guru, a rehab expert, and one of the most innovative strength and conditioning coaches in the business.

To say the least, the free-flow of information that was discussed in an hour’s time was worth 10 times the cost of the seminar.  And we talked for hours!

Why was this information so valuable?

Because the mistakes had already been made, the information had already been tested, and the methods had already been proven.

This was such a unique experience and the information was so powerful that several times the comment was made, “Wow! This stuff is priceless.  We should really have someone videotaping this whole thing.”

So that's what we did.

In doing so, we created the perfect combination of a mentorship program and an AFTER seminar discussion

Let’s face it.  The strength and conditioning field is in a transition.  While the large seminars will always be part of the educational process, it’s the mentorship that creates the best-prepared strength and conditioning coaches.

Most internships, mentorship programs, and seminars are going to cost you serious money and the training approach is limited to a single perspective.
